The loved ones of young people lost after a tragic fire at a venue in a Swiss alpine town are confronting an painful period of uncertainty for official news and pleading for clues about their loved ones via social media.

The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Verified footage reveal the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.

Officials have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the victims of the disaster, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and injured another over a hundred. Authorities said on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with the process continuing to name the other six.

In the meantime, relatives have been using social media to appeal for any news about their loved ones who were present at the venue that evening.

Appeals for the Unaccounted For
