No less than 64 civilians lost their lives in a security raid targeting the criminal organization Comando Vermelho in the Brazilian city's northern suburbs - the most extensive and fatal action in the area's history.

Four security agents were included in the fatalities during Operation Containment in the neighborhoods of Alemão and Penha, local authorities said. Over 80 suspects were taken into custody.
